Sustainable production at Spijkerman means more than delivering high-quality products. It means producing responsibly and managing people, materials and processes with care. Sustainability is part of how we think and act.
Our prefab concrete solutions contribute to the infrastructure of tomorrow, every single day. We ensure these are produced, installed and maintained as responsibly as possible.
That process starts at our own production facility in Elst and only ends when our products are reused or recycled after many years of service.

Environment
We aim to minimise our environmental impact. With a nearly gas-free production process, solar panels, heat pumps and smart energy storage, our production facility is designed to operate as sustainably as possible.
Sustainability
Spijkerman’s prefab concrete products are flexible, reusable and recyclable. Reuse is central to our approach, extending product lifespan and reducing waste. We also limit transport and choose to work with local partners whenever possible.
Responsible business operations
We are committed to a safe, inclusive and socially responsible organisation. We collaborate with regional partners, create opportunities for people with limited access to the job market, and support initiatives such as Justdiggit to make a global positive impact.

74% of our environmental impact is linked to scope 3 emissions.
We aim for net-zero CO2 emissions by 2030, a fully fossil-free process.
Our Elst production facility has been 80% gas-free since 2025, and will be fully gas-free by 2026.
Prefab concrete is nearly 100% recyclable. In practice, around 90% is recycled at end-of-life.
By 2030, we will offer at least 10% of our roles as internships, apprenticeships or positions for career switchers.

Environment
We are building a future with minimal environmental impact. Our own production facility is largely powered by sustainable energy.
Heat pumps, solar panels and smart storage systems reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
By producing and assembling locally, we reduce transport distances, saving kilometres and cutting CO₂ emissions. We use overhead cranes instead of forklifts, which results in less particulate matter and fewer emissions.
Waste is kept to a minimum. Concrete leftovers are reused immediately, and hazardous substances are avoided or reduced wherever possible.
Sustainability
Our products are designed with circularity in mind. Spijkerman’s prefab concrete stations last up to 75 years and can be flexibly deployed. When repurposed, they can easily be relocated or adapted to new functions.
We actively choose standardisation, making parts easier to reuse and reducing material consumption and stock. Where technically possible, we use recycled raw materials.
This approach ensures our products are not only sustainable today, but retain their value in the future.
Responsible business operations

We create opportunities for people with limited access to the labour market, train young professionals, and are a recognised training company. This builds a more inclusive organisation and strengthens our sector.
We choose our suppliers with care, setting clear standards for CSR and sustainability. This ensures that they also contribute to our sustainability ambitions.
Finally, through our partnership with Justdiggit, we actively contribute to global re-greening. Together, we help dry regions thrive again, while CO₂ is captured through restored ecosystems.
